History : The legend attached to Dwaraka Tirumala is of a staunch devotee Dwaraka, who had immense faith in the Lord and used to visit Tirumala every year. As time passed, he became old but his reverence to the Lord never diminished.
Once, when he undertook his journey to Tirumala, he fell unconscious. Pleased with his untiring devotion the Lord appeared and asked him to go to Vengi of Seshachalam and offer prayers to his idol and it would be equivalent of having his Darshan at Tirumala. He also granted him a boon that after his prayers the place will bear his name and become prominent. Dwaraka proceeded to Seshachalam but could not locate the place and started praying incessantly.
One day Dwaraka heard the voice of a white eagle reciting the name of Krishna and hinting him to go the north west direction. Dwaraka proceeded and found a huge glittering Valmikam (anthill) and found a sacred glowing idol of Lord, upto the bust level. A temple was constructed in the place which became famous after his name as Dwaraka Tirumala. As the swayambhu Idol was to the level of bust, the devotees could not perform the padapuja. A full size idol of Lord Venkateshwara was brought over from Saptagiri and consecrated behind the self-manifested Idol.
